Need help diagnosing P0305

Post by Billyqlindo »

Hi guys , I had a 04 Kia Sorento 3.5 Dohc recheck from a different shop.. vehicle had a miss on cyl 5, new plugs and wires were intalled. I quickly connected the firstlook pulse sensor and checked exhaust waveforms, it was nice and even (no picture), inyectors working good.... but the intake waveform had a problem especially with cyl 5....here are some pics from intake at idle.
We recommend extra labor for further diagnostic and posible mechanical issues buy customer didn't wan to spend more money and left....two months later customer tell me that the problem was fixed ...the timing was off in one bank.
Can somebody explain me please if I could have seen that issue by just looking at the intake waveform...without checking crank and cam waveforms or going further in the diagnostic.

Sorry mate.
There is just no way a correct diagnosis can be made from those images (resolution too low).

Chalk it down as experience and next time you have a nasty, post the wave forms up here and we can give it a go

FF.

Thank you Freddy...car is gone ..I was just curious to see if we can detect a timing problem by just looking at the intake vacuum waveform...if somebody have a intake waveform from a v6 with timing off in one bank please let me know .....I need to take this out of my head..thank you.

You can see timing issues with the FLS using your time cursors over 720° .

Bit of a stretch for a timing problem to affect just one cylinder...

That was my first thought...hard to believe timing off will give you a miss in just one cyl...hope customer comeback to ask for more details. ...
