brand new computer with windows 8, its never had a version of pico installed

Can you go to c:\windows and send a copy of dpinst.log to support@picotech.com

just an update on my problem, picoscope6 non automotive installed and operates fine but retried pico6 auto but still same problem

That's very unusual as they are the same underlying codebase, which versions of each have you tried?

Hi,
There is an installation log file that can be created which will provide some further information. However, these may contain information about your system. Could you please e-mail support@picotech.com with this file and we will assist you further.
The process to generate the file is as follows:
Open a command prompt window in Windows with Administrator Priviliges
use the cd command to change to the directory where the installation executable is e.g.
Run the following command:
Code: Select all
PicoScope6Automotive_r6_7_40.exe /v"/L install.log"
If you are using the Beta software, please change the name of the exe.
