Speed sensor diagnoses

Post by medroberts »

Hi, Can somedody tell me if it is possible to view a waveform from a speed sensor (inductive sensor),using the 4423 scope ? The sensor produces AC voltage of approx 1.2 VAC. :?:

I've not got much experience with the scope, but that shouldn't be a problem :)

I would hope so if VR CKP sensors are possible .....

Everybody, Thanks for the answer. Sorry Iam asking dumb questions, but I have never used an scope before. Iam an agri-engineer (dealer based)and Iam seriously considering a picoscope 4423.The agri industry is getting increasingly more complex with electrionic systems  . Do you think a scope would benifit my diagnostics greatly ?

In what way ?
Management systems/communication networks ?
'magic eye' types of sensor ?
Solenoid valves/blocks with there own controllers etc ?

Med - Have you downloaded the software to have a play with? It's free and will work in demo mode.

You will find loads of samples to look at.

Robski,
The kind of systems we work on include, engine management, transmission and hydraulic management systems.
All of which are ECU controlled and use CAN networks.Obviously the systems incorperate sensors, actuators i.e spool/soleniods etc We use manufactures diagnostic software, but this does not give you the possibility to view signals/waveforms ,such as PWM signals etc. We get more and more intermittent faults  ,which I was hoping I could capture using a scope ? Please give me your thoughts............
Cheers, Med.
