Closed circuit current monitoring

Post by mastertech02 »

Hi to All.

Just carrying out the above tests on a BMW X5. Required to monitor overnight using 60amp clamp on 20 amp setting.

The problem was that even with 200secs/div there was insufficient storage time to get through the night. The other problem was the current clamp exhausted the internal battery during the overnight test.

Is there any way of increasing the capture time to be able to carry this test out. Also is this normal for the clampo to exhaust a battery during this time period ?

Any help appretiated

Dear Dennis

The latest version of PicoScope Automotive will give upto a 1000 Sec/Div so if you set the software to this timebase it should get through the night on a long test such as the one you are trying to perform.

You can download the latest version from the following link:-

As for the current clamp, we dont see why this will not also get through the night on a long test. You will need to put a new battery into the clamp before you start the test but this should certainly be able to complete an overnight test.

I hope this helps to answer your questions.

Kind regards
