Fuel pumps

Post by PeterM »

Hi,

Has anybody noticed that some new fuel pumps [check with your pico] do not rotate at 5-6000rpm [as the book says] - more like 3000rpm [multipoint]. You can check the commutator and the waveform but when you check your new pump, the waveform will be a remarkably different but the revs will be lower. Has anyone else come across this?

Thanks a lot,
Peter.

Peter,

Not sure what book you have been reading, but there is no general RPM rule. That varies a LOT as does current level from application to application.

As far as new pumps go though, the waveform is often not well ordered until the brushes wear in.
