Pico Technology in 2021 - a summary

16/12/21

Probably very few of us, when we first heard rumours about some mysterious new virus emerging in China in early 2020, would have believed that the world would still be reeling from its effects nearly two years later. The impact has been deep and wide and continues to challenge us all on many levels. In spite of these difficulties, we sincerely hope that you have managed to retain or regain some sense of normality during the course of 2021 and that 2022 brings you the best of health, happiness, and prosperity as we continue to find ways to live with Covid-19 and its variants.

For Pico, 2021 has been a period of significant adjustment. We have continued to battle the severe disruption that is affecting all supply chains and, in particular, the semiconductor industry. Our teams have been working flat out to deal with the daily challenges this poses for us and many others. Despite these difficult circumstances, 2021 proved to be another significant year for Pico in terms of product development.

Our PicoScope 7 Automotive software reached parity with PicoScope 6 Automotive for most major features. PicoScope 7 Automotive moved from beta to a full stable release and has become the recommended software for automotive diagnostics. Please note that, although we are focused on adding the remaining features to PicoScope 7 Automotive (such as Masks and Alarms), we continue to listen to and value your feedback. We use it to continuously refine and improve the software. One such improvement has been the addition of Dark mode, which has proven to be a very popular new feature.

One other significant addition to the PicoScope 7 Automotive software has been the updated Waveform library. This uses a brand new infrastructure that will deliver performance and availability improvements. These changes are also dictated by the rapidly evolving operating systems and software technologies that, unfortunately, will break the old library mechanism. The new infrastructure is only available in PicoScope 7 Automotive, so PicoScope 6 Automotive will, therefore, lose access to the Waveform library during the course of 2022.

In terms of help and support, we have started to redevelop our A-Z of PicoScope that describes what the various PicoScope hardware and software features do, why they are useful and how you can use them. We have also made the information accessible in the PicoScope 7 Automotive software. With time, the A-Z of PicoScope will become the de facto help guide for all things PicoScope. In addition, we have created a new PicoScope Automotive app (available on iOS and Android app stores) that is full of guidance to help you make the most of your PicoScope and accessories. We hope you will check it out if you find that you have a quiet moment over the Christmas period. Oh, and, of course, we have continued to release great diagnostic case studies with applications ranging from wind turbines to resolvers.

Finally, we would like to say a special thank you to all our customers for your support and engagement. Your involvement helps us focus the efforts of the Pico team in those areas where we can best help you improve your businesses. We wish you and your families a great holiday and look forward to making 2022 even more exciting for PicoScope users worldwide.

Pico will be closed on December 24th and will re-open on January 4th 2022, refreshed for the new year and looking forward to continuing to make PicoScope even better.
