We’re pleased to announce that a new SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission) protocol Guided Test is now available in PicoScope 7 Automotive. This test is now available and completely free to all users via the PicoScope 7 Automotive software, which can be downloaded from picoauto.com/downloads.
SENT is a digital communication protocol commonly used in modern vehicle powertrain systems. It transmits data from sensors—such as those measuring pressure, temperature, or position—to the ECU over a single wire. Designed as a cost-effective alternative to more complex protocols like CAN, SENT offers high-resolution data transfer, excellent noise immunity, and simple point-to-point communication. Two distinct data channels operate within the protocol: the Fast Channel for rapid, real-time data, and the Slow Channel for background diagnostics and configuration information.
To help technicians accurately diagnose issues on systems using SENT, our new Guided Test walks you step-by-step through the entire process. From choosing the right probe and making correct connections, to configuring your PicoScope settings, the test ensures you’re set up correctly from the start. Once connected, it provides waveform examples, signal descriptions, and fault identification tips to help you confidently interpret SENT signals and diagnose problems efficiently.
Whether you’re new to digital serial protocols or looking to expand your diagnostics on newer vehicles, this Guided Test is an ideal resource. It’s designed to simplify complex data and bring clarity to what’s happening on the line—turning a potentially tricky job into a straightforward process.
Update your PicoScope 7 Automotive software today and access the SENT protocol Guided Test from the Guided Tests menu. It’s free, it’s live, and it’s ready to support your diagnostics—one pulse at a time.
