Custom probes

What it does

By changing and scaling your measurements to have different values, units or ranges, Custom probes convert your channel inputs to an on-screen view of the measurement quantity you are interested in.

For example, you can create, load or save Custom probes to:

  • Convert the output of a non-PicoScope probe or measurement device that doesn’t have its settings built-in to PicoScope.
  • Transform the measured output of a vehicle sensor to compare it directly with scan tool readings.
  • Create a new probe based on the rescaled output of an existing probe.

How it can help you

You cannot easily compare your measured data to reference data when they are in different formats. In these cases, Custom probes are a highly convenient way to convert your data so you can make reliable comparisons and sound diagnostic decisions.

As you can save and share Custom probes, you can reuse them freely and save yourself, your colleagues and others from having to spend the time it takes to create them.

How to use it

Open the Channel Options panel for the channel where the Custom probe will be applied and select the Probes tab.

If you want to add a new Custom probe, under the Manage probes section, select Add.

If you want to edit a Custom probe, under the Custom section select the probe and under the Manage probes section, select Edit.

Follow the Add custom probe or Edit custom probe dialogs as required to add or update custom probe settings, such as the Probe name, its Units, the Scaling Method (Equation or Table) and related parameters, its Ranges [feature coming soon], and set the Coupling Mode, Bandwidth Limit, Auto Range and Software Filter properties.

If you change the name of a probe you are editing and save it, a new Custom probe with the new name will be created.

You can go back and forward through the selected settings using the Back and Next buttons or press Cancel to exit the dialog without saving. Press Finish to exit the dialog and save your Custom probe when you have finished.
