Dual 12 V Batteries

A recently revived forum discussion explores the best way to test dual 12 V batteries in parallel. Initially, the post highlights how a PicoDiagnostics test provides only a combined result, potentially masking a weak battery.

Real-world data from the Waveform Library compares a faulty dual-battery setup with a known good system. Calculating internal resistance reveals that a high-resistance battery doesn’t share the load effectively, forcing the stronger battery to work harder and discharge quicker, ultimately shortening its lifespan. In contrast, a well-matched battery pair showed a balanced performance.

When testing dual batteries in parallel, assessing internal resistance is key. Mismatched batteries discharge unevenly, accelerating wear on the stronger one. Using PicoScope to analyze individual battery contributions provides a clearer picture of battery health and helps prevent premature failure.
