Tesla Model S Suspension Rattle

In the latest video from the Pico Automotive YouTube channel, Steve applies PicoDiagnostics NVH and PicoScope 7 Automotive software to locate the offending suspension component and resolve the mystery rattle. Check it out below!

Using NVH to find origin of engine knock, click, and misfire on a Porsche Cayenne V6

“This Porsche Cayenne 3.6 V6 is an older car, but still in nice condition, with the issue of: “engine vibration after morning start”. It’s useful to mention here that cold start means 28 or more degrees Celsius, as this is in southeast Asia tropical climate.

From monitoring the misfire count with a diagnostic tester, it became apparent that the cylinder 4 was having misfire counts which were slowly disappearing as the engine warmed up, along with the clicking noise which also almost disappeared. However, the idle was not perfectly smooth even at engine operation temperature. On higher RPM and under the load, there was nothing noticeable at either temperature.”

Many thanks to Roman Franta for providing us with this guest case study; you can follow his full diagnostic process on our website. Do you have a case study using Pico products that you’d like to share? Be sure to get in touch; we always want to hear from you!

Over 10,000 waveforms on our Waveform Library!

The Pico Reference Waveform Library now hosts over 10,000 waveforms, and the number continues to grow!

The Waveform Library is available to all users of Automotive PicoScope models using PicoScope 7 and provides a space for users to upload, store, manage and share their reference waveforms.Technicians can fully update or delete any of their uploaded waveforms within the library, allowing them to have an easily managed collection.

The Waveform Library now streamlines the entire upload process, meaning users can continue with their diagnostics as they are uploaded. In addition, users can continue to search and download waveforms, whether uploaded by themselves or others, more quickly due to extensive server improvements. The Waveform Library provides a free backup service that they can access from any PC with an Automotive PicoScope connected.

When carrying out vehicle diagnostics, technicians must have reliable reference data. It tells them what measurement values and timing to expect from the component and/or system under test. When compared to their own measured values, technicians can use the reference data to quickly decide whether a vehicle is operating within tolerance.

With the Pico Waveform Library, Guided Tests and PicoScope 7 Automotive software, technicians are better equipped to accurately diagnose problems faster than ever. You can find out more about the Waveform Library on our website.

Elite Diagnostic Solutions: Automotive Training

Real-life mates and world-renowned instructors, Brin Kline and Brandon Steckler are returning to UK and Ireland for a unique class experience!

They will co-instruct a never-before-presented driveability course entitled: A Logical Approach to Port Injection and GDI Driveability Concerns. This course will feature scan tool tactics to offer diagnostic direction (right from the cockpit!) as well as oscilloscope tactics (featuring PicoScope), for when it’s time to head under the bonnet and pinpoint that root cause fault.

This is an opportunity you surely do not want to miss. Find a date near you and be sure to register online!

Using PicoScope 7: The Basics

In this webinar training event, the team at NGK share direct-sourced PicoScope  insights for the automotive technical community. When testing automotive electrical systems, it is essential to have a good understanding of proper set-up, capabilities, settings, and additional supportive resources.
