Case study: Rover 45

This month we feature a Case Study from Rob Smith (Robski on our forum).

Rob had a Rover 45 in with an engine management light illuminated, but there did not appear to be any running issues.

Here we have a (long) video case study on YouTube with ScannerDanner. If you have seen Paul's videos before you will know their value, and that it is worth taking the time to watch his videos. In this video ScannerDanner has a 2003 Toyota Echo with a misfire trouble code (P0304). In this video you initially hear the misfire, before Paul walks through the steps of diagnosing the problem. Between the DTC and basic testing it is confirmed that cylinder 4 is the problem cylinder. A clear flood mode crank checks for consistent compression sound, which indicates compression is OK. The next step would be either injector or spark. For the benefit of this video the spark is checked next to help emphasise how to check the 4-pin 4-wire coil over plug designs....
