Competition Still Running!

We will award the credit to whom we believe submits the best quality case study. Here we have a two–part video (both parts are around 20 minutes) on YouTube from Paul Danner (aka ScannerDanner) of Engine Performance Diagnostics. In part 1 of this video Paul walks through some of the testing procedures that may be used for any no start condition. This particular vehicle is a 2000 Lexus RX 300. One thing to note, the cam-crank relationship waveform capture in the first picture is wrong, watch the end of the part 1 video for this correction.

Motor Age magazine will be hosting a live webcast on testing engine mechanical health. They’ll be using a PicoScope, WPS500 transducer and a FirstLook tailpipe sensor. The training is offered free, but you need to register. It takes place on May 31st at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (June 1st at 1 a.m. GMT) and is live on the car. This allows the audience to ask questions and participate during the webcast. As with all of the Motor Age webcasts, the recorded session will be uploaded for viewing at a later date.

Pico’s 6–way Universal Automotive Breakout Leads are designed to work with any vehicle — eliminating the need to own many specific breakout leads for engine diagnostics. The breakout leads are available with 4 different sizes of connectors allowing you to connect to virtually any sensor in the engine compartment — of any vehicle — using just 4 leads. Never again will you need to search your workshop for that expensive vehicle/sensor specific lead. The breakout lead is simply connected into the existing cable loom and enables voltage readings to be taken from the numerous sensors in the engine compartment. The output signal can then be taken from the 4 mm banana plugs into the input of the automotive oscilloscope using the TA000 test lead.

Note: a TA000 will be required to convert the 4 mm banana plug connection on the Pico 6–way breakout lead into a BNC connector suitable for plugging into the PicoScope.

Training Courses

If you own, or are thinking of buying, a Pico Automotive Diagnostics Kit, you mustn’t miss the Professional Diagnostics Ltd Engine Management Diagnostics course. This two-day course introduces the basic working principles of engine management systems, component testing and system diagnostics using oscilloscopes. The course is split between class–based theory sessions and practical demonstrations in a workshop using the Pico Automotive Diagnostics Kit. The course runs several times a year around the UK, and the following dates are currently available:
